Some recent polls indicate a slight shift in Liberal support. Consider this time of year when we observe the migration of birds. Their conformity of flight occurs when they take their cues from, and mimic, the nearest birds in the flock. It is helpful to identify who the lead birds are.

How can Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urge “maximum restraint” from Israel in its defence against Hamas and call for a ceasefire while Hamas continues its assault of rockets and is regrouping for future attacks? War is ugly. Period. Just ask the victims of the Oct. 7 massacre and the Gaza residents used as shields for the terrorists. And then consider Israel’s defence of its nationhood and its people.

When this animosity spreads into our “peaceful” country via hate-motivated attacks against the Jewish community, it is reasonable to surmise that many pro-Palestinian protesters are following the cues of dangerous and uninformed leaders.

It’s time for Canadians to speak up. I support Israel and its fight against terrorism. I am not Jewish, nor a member of any religion. I have no relatives in the Middle East. But I am appalled that the hate originating from that region has infected our own society.

The hate espoused by those who protest and demand the death of Jews is not welcome here. Canadians who have remained quiet through the horrific attacks by the barbarians of Gaza need to speak up now and let everyone know that those actions, and the mindless and disgusting celebrations of those acts, are not acceptable here.
