In a plot twist that might as well have been scripted for a TV show’s climactic season finale, Netflix’s move to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery—which came together after Netflix outbid entertainment industry rivals Paramount and Comcast—has been upended by a surprise hostile bid from the spurned Paramount, throwing the future of the M&A process into doubt.
Paramount’s offer, which targets not just the studio and streaming assets included in the Netflix deal but also cable channels such as CNN, is reportedly valuing WBD at about $108 billion, debt included, with the New York Times reporting that Paramount would pay $30 per share in cash for the takeover.
