How can we improve the state of human rights in Scotland?
Part of living in a country which respects human rights is having a strong National Human Rights Institution. Independent of Government, bodies like the Scottish Human Rights Commission across the world are an essential part of upholding the rule of law for everyone, by monitoring how rights are being experienced, and publicly reporting on that, without fear or favour.
On Human Rights Day this Tuesday, the Commission will present its inaugural State of the Nation report to the Scottish Parliament. The first in a new series of annual reports, this one focuses on the realities of civil and political rights, supporting MSPS to recognise Parliament’s accountability for delivering rights for all in Scotland.
