I spent my first sabbatical semester in North America and was able to witness the simmering of something bigger. Bigger it became at Columbia, Harvard, Yale and many other places. But bigger is merely a remake of past movements – civil rights, Vietnam, May 1968 – with which many sympathizers compare the current events. It is indeed a common feature of campus revolts to engage in just causes, and young people should have a say about our political tomorrow, no doubt. We train them to be critical citizens and thoughtful interlocutors.
