IN AMERICA: Late-night TV
I don’t know about you, but I’ve discovered as I age that falling asleep isn’t what it used to be when I was younger.
When I was 40 or so, my head would hit the pillow and bam!, it was lights out. Now, I take a melatonin, turn off every electronic device that has even the smallest light, and lay back and stare at the ceiling for sometimes what seems like hours.
A friend suggested reading a good book ’til I get sleepy, but the problem with me is if the book is really good, I’ll be up until 4 a.m. trying to finish whatever I started.
Sigh.
As my mom once said, aging ain’t for sissies. Mom’s a stitch. She’s also 98½, so she knows of what she speaks.
So, I decided to try a different approach. I thought maybe if I watched something blah on TV, maybe if I sat up late at night and tuned into some dull infomercial channel, that I would just nod off from boredom.
After clicking and surfing for a few days I discovered what I thought would be just the cure.........
