FROM THE PUBLISHER: FLT looking for new home
The Finger Lakes Times is looking for a new home.
Since 1953, the Times has been housed at 218 Genesee St. in downtown Geneva, the 71-year run being the longest stretch the newspaper has been in one location during its overall, 129-year history. For those seven decades, it was the perfect spot, having been the site of another previous paper, the Geneva Daily News, and then of Premier Mill Corp., a manufacturing company.
However, in 2024 we no longer need 19,000 square feet of space or an acre of land with 60-plus parking spots.
Now, before I get into more of the nitty-gritty, Managing Editor Alan Brignall told me to make sure I say this prominently and forcefully in this column: The Finger Lakes Times IS NOT CLOSING in any way, shape or form. We expect to be producing newspapers for years — and decades — to come. We just will not be based at 218 Genesee St.
So, beginning in today’s paper (on Page 5A) and running for the foreseeable future, you will see an ad listing a “Redevelopment Opportunity,” which includes our building,........
