POSITIVE VIBES: Friendship, sports and random events

This week marks 33 years of my wife, my partner in life, dealing with and being patient with me. We celebrated in a fitting way by going to a Syracuse Mets game.

As much as I enjoy pickleball, my first sports love was baseball, and then softball (and judo and tennis). I was never a great baseball player. I stubbornly wanted to be an outfielder in high school but I couldn’t hit a curveball. Or a fastball. (But I was a great bunter.) Once I finally figured out, hey, I’m a much better thrower than hitter — I should be a pitcher — I had a strange foot injury that sidelined me.

In college, I only threw a couple of innings because, well, that hitting thing. They still didn’t have the designated hitter when I was in college. Being 17, trying to play baseball and do college was hard. (One of the players thought I was the bat boy.) Quite frankly. I was always better suited to play softball. (I once even led the Finger Lakes........
