TIMELY MATTERS: To uplift your soul, try a cemetery tour. Really
Given that the recently concluded presidential election was the most negative, hostile, divisive, and un-presidential such event of my lifetime, and given that I was disappointed in, and annoyed by, the behavior of both candidates as well as so many on the sidelines voting for them, I’ve decided to not write about it at all.
Instead, I’ve decided to write about a much more uplifting subject: cemeteries.
Historic Geneva, which operates under the auspices of the Historical Society, offered a tour of Glenwood Cemetery recently and Archivist/City Historian Becky Chapin left no stone unturned (pun intended) as our guide, sharing her carefully crafted notes with us in a way that we all could understand. She was obviously quite comfortable with the material and had a much-appreciated easy rapport with the group. Special thanks to Becky as well as the devoted assistant holding her umbrella for the duration, and, of course, the enthusiastic group of folks curious enough to brave the weather. It would have been a grave mistake to have missed it.
