In his second term, Donald Trump promises to “unleash American energy” and “free up the vast stores of liquid gold on America’s public land for energy development.” Taking exactly the opposite approach, the day before Trump’s re-election the Trudeau government unveiled draft details of its plans for a cap on greenhouse gas emissions from Canada’s oil and gas sector. The idea is to limit them to 35-38 per cent less than their 2019 levels by 2030.
