Maulings go on endlessly worldwide as irresponsible large-dog owners continually fail to adequately restrain their canines, leaving them to freely maim and murder innocent people, and even their owners.
Some have gotten the idea, because of the predictable frequency of attacks by pit bulls, that I have something against the breed itself, which I don't, although it is far from my favorite house pet. It was a pit bull mix (not a collie or Lab) that suddenly mauled and bloodied Jeanetta on a city street, almost killing our 12-pound taco terrier Benji, as they peacefully walked two years ago.
That said, valued readers, brace yourselves, 'cause here we go yet again.
This time it was James Provost of Schenectady, N.Y. who was brutally slain on Oct. 9 by a pack of unrestrained dogs in nearby Albany.
Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins told TV reporters Provost was attacked by eight or nine dogs from a home near the scene, and the group consisted of mixed-breed pit bulls.
Police responded to a call about "multiple dogs" attacking a man at the 500 block of Central Avenue, the department said. Officers saw the dogs mauling Provost as they arrived. An officer shot one in an attempt to stop the attack, authorities said. But it was too........
