Plans to double the size of the Gillingham Services on the A143/A146 roundabout were approved by South Norfolk Council despite strong opposition by locals.

Many feared that it would become a “rural retail park” with the bid including a new M&S shop and a Greggs drive-through.

The Friends of Gillingham Countryside Community Interest Company is attempting to challenge the council’s verdict in the High Court.

Now, Beccles Town Council has come out in support of the campaigners, who are crowdfunding to cover the costs of the judicial review process.
