Temporary parking restrictions will be in place later this month as resurfacing works take place on Walton Road and Stanley Street in Lowestoft.

Motorists are being warned they could face delays and homeowners are also being made aware of the closures.

The resurfacing works will be carried out by Suffolk Highways with both roads temporarily closed from 8am on Wednesday, April 15 to 5pm on Thursday, April 16.

It comes after previous roadworks plans were ditched due to parked cars getting in the way.

According to the One Network roadworks map, delays are likely as the roads are temporarily closed with a diversion route for the development works in place.

A spokesman for Suffolk Highways said: "Access to properties and businesses will be made available when it is safe to do so, but there may be a short delay.

"Temporary parking restrictions will be placed on both sides of Walton Road and Stanley Street - with no parking at any time."

Highways officials said that works had been "previously attempted" on both roads, but parked vehicles had caused obstructions.

Now homeowners are being urged to help ensure the works can take place.

The spokesman said: "When we previously attempted to carry out works at this location, we were unable to proceed due to the presence of parked vehicles.

"To help reduce the risk of this happening again, parking enforcement may be used.

"To ensure these works commence and progress smoothly, please do not park your vehicle on the road shortly before they are scheduled to begin as well as throughout their duration."

Highways officials thanked homeowners, locals and drivers for their "patience during this time."

A diversion route will be in operation throughout the course of the works in Lowestoft.

Traffic will be diverted via Haward Street, Roman Road, Wollaston Road and vice versa.
