Retired nurse 'at the end of tether' after leaky boiler leads to days without heating

Venessa Stanton, a retired nurse, discovered the leak in the kitchen of her Wymondham bungalow on February 26 and reported it to Clarion Housing, which owns her home.

Ms Stanton says the leak then trickled down to the switch for her heating, which is no longer safe to use.

She said: "I'm at the end of my tether. They keep sending people to come and look and fix but nothing changes."

While the heating is off, Ms Stanton relies on a small electric fan heater to warm the rooms of her home but she is worried how running it will drive up her electricity bills.

She also says when she has the fan on, she starts to cough from the dry heat.

In her late 50s, Ms Stanton had to have excess fluid drained from her lungs after contracting double bronchial pneumonia and pleurisy, which causes inflammation and fluid build up.

"Because of that, I also can't get too cold," she added. "I could end up back in hospital if I get pneumonia again.

"It's frustrating because no one seems to know what they're doing."

A spokesman for Clarion Housing, who apologised for the delays, said the issues should be sorted this week.

A spokesman for Clarion Housing said: "We apologise to Ms Stanton for the time it has taken to resolve the issues with her heating and have been working hard to provide a permanent fix.

"After the leak was reported repairs were carried out the same day. Unfortunately, an electrical issue caused by the leak has led to delays.

"Hot water and heating continue to be available through the immersion heating system and temporary fan heaters. A permanent repair to the electrics is scheduled for tomorrow."
