Walking route shut for two years after Covid exercisers wore it out could reopen

The much-loved Yare Valley Boardwalk, which links the University of East Anglia to Eaton and Cringleford, has been recommended to receive more than £260,000 from a council pot of cash.

The boardwalk was shut for health and safety reasons in January 2024, after the UEA nature trail saw a three-fold increase in visitors during lockdown.

That was a time when exercise was one of the few permitted reasons for people to leave their homes.

The sheer number of people using the boardwalk meant it suffered wear and tear, which prompted the closure.

But bosses at the UEA, who have been working on a new scheme to replace it have been handed a significant boost to help get it reopened.
