Coventry council tax hike slammed with 'this is unsustainable' verdict

Coventry Live readers have expressed their outrage over the recent decision by Coventry city councillors to implement a 4.9 per cent hike in council tax. This increase will add an average of nearly £97 to residents' tax bills, including a two per cent rise specifically for social care.

As a result, the average household in the city will see their tax bill go up by £96.77, the council announced earlier this month. The move was approved by councillors from the ruling Labour group and opposition Greens.

An attempt by the Conservative group to limit the council tax rise to 4.3 per cent was unsuccessful. Their alternative budget proposed £1 million in new savings to support the smaller increase.
