Trump criticizes Biden over Ukrainian long-range missile strikes in Russia
US President-elect Donald Trump has sharply criticized President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for allowing long-range missile strikes deep into Russia, calling it a major escalation in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Moscow. Speaking in an interview with Time magazine on December 12, following his recognition as the 2024 Person of the Year, Trump expressed dismay over the attacks, which he described as reckless and counterproductive.
“I disagree very vehemently with sending missiles hundreds of miles into Russia. Why are we doing that?” Trump questioned rhetorically during the interview. He labeled the strikes as a “foolish decision” and suggested they only exacerbate tensions, rather than moving toward resolution.
According to Trump, the decision to launch missiles into internationally recognized Russian territory is a critical misstep by the Biden administration. He suggested that such actions risk drawing the United States further into a prolonged and dangerous conflict. “That should not have been allowed to be done,” he asserted, emphasizing his belief that the Biden administration’s tacit approval of these strikes could have far-reaching consequences.
Trump’s remarks follow reports from the Russian Defense Ministry that Ukraine recently used six US-supplied ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile Systems) to strike a military airfield near the southern Russian city of Taganrog. While Russian forces managed to intercept two of the missiles and redirect the others using electronic warfare, the debris caused injuries and damage to two buildings and several vehicles.
The Kremlin has called the strike an “act of aggression” and warned of an appropriate response.........
