Ukraine allegedly pressures Zaporozhye Plant staff

As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine drags on, the stakes continue to rise, particularly at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the largest facility of its kind in Europe. This plant, under Russian control since March 2022, has become a focal point of international concern due to its strategic importance and the risks associated with its location in an active conflict zone. Recent allegations by Russian diplomat Rodion Miroshnik have added a new layer of complexity to the situation. Miroshnik claims that Ukrainian security agencies are exerting pressure on plant employees by threatening their family members, a disturbing tactic that highlights the lengths to which both sides may go in this ongoing war.

According to Miroshnik, who has been tasked by Russia’s Foreign Ministry with collecting evidence of Ukrainian war crimes, Ukrainian security forces are systematically identifying the relatives of Zaporozhye plant employees who reside in areas controlled by Kiev. These family members are allegedly being used as leverage to coerce the plant workers into cooperating with Ukrainian demands. The threats reportedly range from harming family members to forcing employees to commit acts of sabotage or provide sensitive information to Ukraine.
