Gary Newbon: Locking up troublemakers only way to stop repeat of ugly Hawthorns scenes

The 30-minute delay at The Hawthorns because of crowd trouble in Sunday’s FA Cup tie begs two questions.

How were Wolves fans allowed in the home section – presumably their presence would have been spotted either by colours or cheering for the away side – and when are we going to start getting tough with troublemakers. ie prison?

Many people in this country are getting fed up with the soft sentences handed out. The police have done an excellent job in recent times inside football grounds.

This latest problem, and the recent racist chants at Hillsborough against Coventry’s Kasey Palmer, need to be stamped out with heavy deterrents. Or it will start spreading again.

Meanwhile, my FA Cup predictions in last week’s column have stood up. Wolves did beat the Baggies, Aston Villa and Coventry are still in it after away draws and Leicester City beat Birmingham City, although the Blues missed so many chances in the first half.

I was at the King Power Stadium where the Foxes made TEN changes to their line-up. When in the second half they brought three of the six first-team regulars off the bench, the result was always going to........
