Democrats are whistling past the graveyard

The more Democrats welcome Democratic Socialists of America into their ranks, the weaker they become and the stronger Donald Trump and MAGA become.

Every time Democrats deny that DSA members are communists, usually by nitpicking over definitions thereof, Trump's claim that they are will resonate and score points.

Trump and his minions wouldn't hesitate to engage in the most rank form of demagogy, to exaggerate and distort, but calling people communists who self-identify as communists (or at least Marxists) is not "McCarthyism."

As Bill Maher put it, "Donald Trump has told one trillion lies, but when he says the Democratic Socialists of America are actually communist, that's not one of them. And it's not hard to prove it just by quoting the DSA and their candidates."

Indeed, one wonders if those apologizing for the DSA and trying to soft-pedal its radicalism (often by equating "democratic socialism" with warm, cuddly Scandinavian "social democracy," thereby obfuscating the massive differences between the two) have even bothered to listen to DSA-backed candidates or read their platform. If they had, they would realize it doesn't sound much different than the platforms of the Communist Party of the United States (CPUSA) in its 1980s Gus Hall/Angela Davis incarnation, albeit minus the oaths of loyalty to the USSR.

But if memory serves, even the CPUSA didn't........
