Opinion: No citizenship proof of 218K voters a big mess
Every noncitizen voter dilutes the vote of a citizen voter. In Arizona, there could be as many as 218,000 who fit into the first category.
In a state nationally famous for weekslong counts, razor-thin results and accusations of foul play, a disaster is brewing in the Grand Canyon State.
Four years ago, Joe Biden won by just 10,457 votes. Some partisans are still arguing about that, no matter how bizarre. But in 2024, the number of potential noncitizen voters is more than 20 times that margin. If you thought conspiracy theories were bad in 2020, you better stock up on tin foil before Election Day.
To put it mildly, this is very bad and will likely get much worse.
Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer first discovered the database glitch that caused nearly 98,000 registered voters not to meet the proof of citizenship. He filed an emergency petition to the Arizona Supreme Court to declare them ineligible to vote in state elections.
