Opinion: Many ballots are 80 questions long. Yes, really

A local Republican legislative district is urging fellow GOP voters to use a mail-in ballot.

“Did you know 350,000 Republicans left their green early ballot on the counter in 2022?” its roadside campaign signs ask. “Make a plan to vote today.”

It’s ironic, because Republicans were once flatly told not to use their mail-in ballots and vote in person, out of unfounded fear that early ballots were insecure.

But that’s also an instructive word choice: “Make a plan to vote.”

Whether intentional or not, it connotes what I don’t think enough people fully understand — that it’s going to require some extra forethought to vote this year.

The ballot, for the first time since 2006, is two super-size pages, front and back.

The number of contests varies by jurisdiction, but the average number in Maricopa County is........
