New York Mayor Eric Adams now says he wants to deport those who are charged with a crime, even before they are convicted.

That’s clearly a move to thwart Donald Trump’s wrath.

I suspect other Democratic governors and mayors will do the same once Trump returns to the White House, where he can withhold federal funding to so-called “sanctuary” or immigrant-friendly states and cities.

Why haven’t authorities like Adams gone after criminals before? Are they letting violent criminals off the hook just because they’re here illegally?

That’s what Trump and MAGA want Americans to believe, and it worked to get him elected again.

Immigration reality is something entirely different and much more complex. But most don’t want to deal with it and prefer the soundbites fed to them to spark fear and hate toward this population.

Adams’ flip underscores politicians’ eagerness to use migrants as pawns for their personal political gains — just as Trump has done.

The Democratic mayor has complained about the financial strain that undocumented migrants put on his city. Yet he kept spending billions to house and feed them.

Why didn’t he at least target criminals for deportation then?

Why the newfound courage to ignore due process and simply kick them out of the country?

Because of Trump, of course, and Adams’ own legal problems that include........
