Victims bear witness to MAGA cruelty
The presidential conventions and the debate drew bigger audiences. But there has been no more impactful event during this presidential campaign than the remarkably moving Zoom event hosted by Oprah Winfrey for Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday in Farmington, Mich.
As Politico described the event, “The armchair conversation allowed Harris to display a level of empathy for the challenges some Americans are facing while highlighting her personal bio, something she didn’t spend much time on during her debate with former president Donald Trump this month.”
Harris was calm, authoritative and occasionally witty. But the stars of the evening were real people who had suffered grievously because of inhumane MAGA-inspired policies. These ordinary Americans left many in the studio and Zoom audience in tears.
The 28-year-old victim of Georgia’s six-week abortion ban, Amber Nicole Thurman, died a preventable death. Afraid to treat her for fear of violating the law, doctors allowed her to bleed out over 20 hours. Amber’s mother Shanette and her sisters C.J. and Andrika conveyed their unimaginable pain of their loss.
“I want y’all to know Amber was not a statistic,” Shanette said. “She was loved by a family, a strong family, and we would have done whatever to get my baby, our baby, the help that she needed.” She added, “You have to hear me. Women around the world, people around........
