Trump says he’s not ready to declare victory in Iran

President Trump said late Sunday that he is not ready to declare victory against Iran despite saying the U.S. has decimated the country militarily and economically.  “No, I’m not going to do that. There’s no reason to,” Trump told The Hill while speaking with reporters on Air Force One.   “I just say they’re decimated. I think that we’ve done damage to them,” he said.  “If we left right now, it would take them 10 years and more to rebuild but I’m still not declaring it,” he added.  When asked by The Hill whether he is considering sending ground troops into Iran, Trump did not specify.  On Saturday, Trump said in a Truth Social post that the U.S. has beaten Iran “both militarily, economically, and in every other way.”  On Friday, Trump launched what he referred to as “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East” that “totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island.” The bombardment took place after Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, said last week that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed as long as the conflict continues, triggering further fears of economic upheaval.
