Islamabad’s turmoil: A nation divided

On October 4, 2024, Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, became the focal point of significant political activity as the government braced for a massive protest organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). In a show of force, key access points to the city were sealed off with shipping containers, and police presence surged, reflecting the government’s commitment to maintaining order during a politically sensitive time. This protest, driven by PTI supporters in solidarity with their leader, Imran Khan, unfolded against the backdrop of an international visit by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The timing of the protest was particularly sensitive, as Islamabad was not only hosting the Malaysian Prime Minister but also preparing for a high-profile Saudi delegation and Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s visit for crucial international engagements.
