Delhi Polls: Parties eye Naari Shakti as 70 lakh strong women voters hold key to power
The voting for the Delhi Assembly elections is to be held on February 5 and ahead of this, the final voter list was released as part of preparations for the upcoming elections in Delhi. This shows that the number of women voters has increased, making their role even more important in the elections. This time out of the 1.53 crore voters in Delhi the number of female voters is 71,73,952. Over the years the awareness about politics among women has also increased and therefore in the last assembly elections, the voting percentage of women voters was more than that of men in 30 out of 70 assembly constituencies of Delhi.
The importance of women voters can be gauged from the fact that their high voting rate played an important role in the victory of the Aam Aadmi Party in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections. In the last assembly elections, 62.59 per cent voting took place in a total of 70 seats, in which 62.66 per cent of the total male voters and 62.52 per cent of the total female voters voted.
In view of importance of women voters, all political parties are seen going all out to woo this section by announcing various schemes centred around them.
