Indian opposition accuses government of ‘Tax Terrorism’

As the 2024 general elections approach in India, the political arena is fraught with allegations and rebuttals. The Indian National Congress, the primary opposition party, has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating financial oppression and intentionally hindering its capacity to conduct a robust campaign. The crux of the matter revolves around an astounding $218 million tax notice issued to the Congress Party by Indian tax authorities. Jairam Ramesh, a prominent member of the Congress, did not hold back, denouncing this move as “tax terrorism” designed to cripple the party financially.
