Are we witnessing America’s slow unraveling

Prior to and during the 2024 presidential election in the United States, the Biden administration tried everything legal (and not-so-legal) in its power to prevent Donald Trump’s candidacy from moving forward. This included weaponizing federal institutions against Trump and his allies. The Republican majority took his side (although there was a sizeable minority that wasn’t as keen to see him in power), so most GOP-run states announced they’d use their constitutionally guaranteed powers to prevent anti-Trump moves. The Biden administration responded with more (ab)use of federal institutions and authority, while DNC-controlled states backed them with threats to ban Trump from even running in their jurisdictions.

Unsurprisingly, the “red states” prepared a mirror response regarding Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, leading to an unprecedented situation we haven’t seen in over a century and a half, specifically since the American Civil War. Obviously, nothing of that sort happened, as the US is still around (whether that’s fortunate or not is up for debate). However, the latest chaos in the world’s most aggressive country suggests that divisions between states and the federal center are anything but resolved. The only difference is that the two opposing forces flipped the script – the DNC is now focusing on strengthening the powers of individual states, while the Trump administration is using its federal control to enforce various policies.
