MARCO SUTTIE: Perth flooding has spiralled in my lifetime – it goes deeper than property damage

I experienced one of the most unnerving afternoons of my life in September 2022.

After attending a festival, I returned to Broxden park and ride, expecting to be picked up.

But nobody could reach me because Glasgow Road had completely flooded.

There was no safe way for a car to get through, so I had to walk back to my Cherrybank home near Craigie Burn.

At first, I had to wade through part of the flooded Glasgow Road itself. The water was up to my knees.

It was cold, fast-moving, and frightening.

Eventually, I was able to turn off the main road and take another route, but
the fear stayed with me the whole way.

When I finally reached my street, I faced the last and most dangerous obstacle.

The road had become a river.

Had I walked through it, the floodwater would have gone at least up to my waist.
