From the Department of “Kicking ‘Em While They’re Down”: Phil Calderone, until recently the CEO of the Albany Airport, was going to be recognized by the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation for his contributions to the region and the college. But since Mr. Calderone has been shoved out the door, the foundation’s snatching his award back, too.
Mr. Calderone, as you’ll recall, was sacked earlier this month by the Albany Airport Authority Board, not long after it told him without warning that his contract would not be renewed. The entire affair reeked of small-town politics and remains an embarrassment to everyone involved in the decision, or should have been. (Oh, and they booted Mr. Calderone while he was in the hospital. This guy can't catch a break.)
The HVCC Foundation is now giving the award, to be presented at their October gala, to the Albany County Airport Authority. But consider........
