Opinion: Where are you, Democrats? Few are voting early
Alarm bells aren’t yet ringing wildly over at Arizona’s Democratic HQ.
But they certainly should be tuning up.
In a battleground state where the vast majority of people vote early, Arizona Democrats haven’t yet made their way back out to the mailbox.
As of Monday, nearly 42% of early ballots returned in Arizona have come from Republican voters, according to an analysis by Democratic strategist Sam Almy.
Democrats, meanwhile, account for 36% of the voters who already have cast ballots, while independents stand at just 22%.
In all, just under 667,000 of Arizona’s 4.1 million voters had cast ballots as of Monday, leaving millions more still to come.
Democratic politicos don’t seem overly worried. They point to the length of the ballot (two pages), the number of propositions and the fact that ballots arrived late in some parts of the state.
