Here’s a sentence I never expected to cobble together inside my head, let alone put in print:

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs reminds me of Melania Trump.

I know, weird.

But Hobbs is like Melania in one curiously peculiar way.

Each of them says she supports a particular candidate for president. One is a Democrat, one a Republican. And each of them has had opportunities to appear with that candidate in public. Many times.

And each of them defers.

Melania did not even show up when Donald Trump debated Vice President Kamala Harris before a nationally televised audience.

When asked about his wife’s persistent absence, Trump said, “She’s a private person, a great person, a very confident person, and she loves our country very much. She is going to be there when the time is........
