“I’m pausing all my social media accounts for the next while,” Nature Boy announced on Monday.
“For how long?” I asked
“Oh, for the next four years or so.”
The reason for Nature Boy’s retreat from the online platforms is that the tone and quality of public discourse there and elsewhere have tanked over the last decade. All indications forward are that the discourse will nosedive even further in the next few years. It’s already heading that way.
Trump didn’t commit to imposing his threatened 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian exports to the U.S. during his inauguration last Monday, but he did signal they might happen by February.
Although he didn’t mention again including Canada in his territorial ambitions, he repeated his remarks about taking over Greenland and the Panama Canal and mentioned “enemy lists” of people who have criticized or opposed him in recent years.
