Major developer Geocon's move to lodge a development application for 286 units on the Phillip swimming pool and ice skating rink site has been met with great frustration.

The swimming pool's supporters voiced their displeasure at the news and said they would fight to save the aquatic facility.
The proposal involves building two 13-story residential towers with a 25-metre indoor pool on the ground floor and other facilities, including a cafe. Geocon has dubbed it the "Woden Pool Project".
The Canberra Times readers had a lot to say about the move. Here are some of your views.
Jane and Kim Malcolm writes: What a surprise, not!! We didn't expect any less from them, sadly.
Yuri Shukost writes: Another 256 apartment dwellers and a 25m swimming pool for all of them to use. This could get ugly.

H K writes: Why would any government give up a community recreational facility allowing a property developer to buy the block and build hundreds more units with the community missing out on its recreational facilities. Had to go into Civic the other day - what a concrete jungle that has become - just a mess - high-rise buildings. As far as you can see. This town has lost the plot.
Peter Earl writes: It is bizarre that just as hundreds, if not thousands, of units are built in Woden that Geocon is permitted to remove a key community asset - a 50m pool. The pitch n putt and bowling alley have long gone but as the government professes the need to remain healthy a key tool for doing so is........
