Under-fire leader swipes at MPs as she justifies not requesting election go-ahead
Kay Mason Billig, the Conservative-run county council's leader has been under fire over her responses to the government's invitation to councils to delay this May's elections, which subsequently saw local government secretary Steve Reed decide to postpone them.
Mrs Mason Billig did not explicitly ask for a delay in her original response, or in a clarification letter Mr Reed subsequently sought, but she also did not say they should happen.
She said she could not guarantee that the council would be able to deliver local government reorganisation - which will see all Norfolk's council's scrapped and replaced - or devolution, which includes an elected Norfolk and Suffolk mayor, if this year's election went ahead.
Critics, including Reform UK, the Greens and the Liberal Democrats accused her of "running scared" of voters at the ballot box.
