A while back, I told you about Staff Sgt. Tyler Clabaugh, with whom I served in the Afghanistan War. He was a great soldier, especially when things went wrong and he and his squad were in danger.

Sgt. Clabaugh was in charge of the security for a convoy of two Humvees and two Toyota Hilux pickups, on a run with Civil Affairs soldiers to meet with Afghan leaders in a western Afghan village.

Clabaugh was riding up front in the lead Humvee, a brand-new, state-of-the-art armored vehicle. It had an early version of the cool armor nest to help protect the gunner on the roof. It was equipped with all the latest improvised explosive devices signal-jamming equipment. The rig had less than 500 miles on it. I bet the air conditioner still worked.
