Israel has returned the body of Abd al-Muttalib al-Qaisi, who killed two Israeli soldiers at the Allenby Crossing between Jordan and the West Bank on September 18, according to statements posted on Facebook Thursday by the attacker’s family.

Military sources cited by the Ynet news site said al-Qaisi’s body was returned discreetly overnight between Wednesday and Thursday following a government directive. The manner in which the body was returned was specified by the directive, the sources said.

There was no formal announcement about the handover.

While driving a Gaza-bound aid truck through the crossing into the West Bank, Al-Qaisi opened fire at soldiers at the crossing with a handgun. He then got out of the truck and, after his gun apparently jammed, stabbed the two soldiers repeatedly until security guards at the crossing opened fire at him, killing him.
