On Tisha b’Av, the most sombre day in the Jewish calendar, twenty years ago, Michael Levin z”l, the only American/Israeli casualty of the Second Lebanon War, was laid to rest on Mt. Herzl. This past week, his family, comrades, and friends gathered at the hallowed grounds of Mt. Herzl to honour and celebrate the life of Michael, a life cut short but brimming with meaning and purpose.

After Michael’s untimely passing, his parents, Harriet and Mark, chose to commemorate his legacy not with another memorial, but with a tribute that celebrated his ideals and values. Collaborating with family friend Sally Mitlas, they created the poignant documentary film, “A Hero in Heaven,” which has touched and inspired countless individuals worldwide, including the groups I guide in Israel.
