Students across our communities are back in the classroom this week, reminding families to focus on what matters most: making sure their children receive a strong education in a safe, supportive environment. Teachers and school staff are settling into another school year, parents are managing new schedules and expenses, and school districts are working to provide the best education possible while facing costs that continue to rise. At a time when New Yorkers are already being stretched by higher prices, property taxes and household expenses, the state government has a responsibility to make sure the policies imposed on our schools are realistic, affordable, and focused on students.

That responsibility is especially important when it comes to mandates handed down from Albany. New York’s transition toward zero-emission school buses may be well intentioned, but good intentions alone do not build charging infrastructure, purchase expensive new buses or guarantee that new technology will work equally well in every community.
