The Chief Constable of Police Scotland did the country a service when she pointed the finger of blame clearly at Rangers and Celtic over disorder, says our Writer at Large Neil Mackay

The Chief Constable of Police Scotland deserves a standing ovation that fills Hampden.

When Jo Farrell took to the Scottish Parliament this week and pointed the finger directly at Rangers and Celtic she did this country - and specifically Glasgow - a service.

That it took a smart English woman to do something any number of Scotsmen have failed to do tells you all you need to know about the Old Firm and this country.

Farrell, who is from the Wirral, accused Rangers and Celtic of failing to condemn the violent scenes at Sunday’s match.

Fans and police were injured, and a number of people were arrested after clashes between supporters.

Farrell nailed the abysmal behaviour of the two clubs saying that nobody from Rangers or Celtic had spoken out against the disorder. Speaking to Holyrood’s public audit committee, she said: “When we got to Monday evening, there was still no commentary from either of those clubs in respect of the violence that was witnessed. Nobody came out to condemn that violence.”
