From exploring historic windmills to climbing bell towers, people across Norfolk will have the chance to make the most of Heritage Open Days between September 11 and 20.

And while some of the events require pre-booking , there are still plenty you can just turn up to on the day.

Here are seven of the places where visitors can drop-in.

1. Explore Dereham Windmill

Where: Dereham Windmill, Greenfields Road, Dereham, NR20 3TE

When: September 11, 12, 18, 19 between 10am and 3pm

One of Norfolk's best-preserved industrial landmarks, Dereham Windmill, gives visitors the chance to explore all five floors of the Grade II-listed structure.

Illustrated displays explain how grain was milled and provide an insight into the lives of those who worked there.

Set within attractive grounds with picnic space, it's an ideal family-friendly stop during Heritage Open Days.

2. Take in the views at Horsey Windpump

Where: Horsey Windpump, Horsey, NR29 4EE

When: September 12 and 19 between 10am and 4pm
