In this acclaimed and innovative short animation from 1949, the Canadian filmmakers Evelyn Lambart and Norman McLaren visually interpret the music of the legendary Oscar Peterson Trio. Channelling the freewheeling, improvisatory spirit of the group’s jazz performances, Lambart and McLaren painted and scratched abstract images directly onto 35mm film stock, creating vibrant visual sequences that build, pulse and transform alongside the soundscape.
