Alaska’s capital, with a population of 32,000, could ban cruise ships on Saturdays as tourists can spike to 18,000 a day

A measure that would ban cruise ships with 250 or more passengers from docking in Juneau on Saturdays qualified for the Oct. 1 municipal ballot.

On peak days in the past, passenger numbers have totaled about two-thirds of Juneau's population of roughly 32,000 people.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy vetoed a package overwhelmingly passed by lawmakers that called for a $175-million increase in aid.

Meanwhile, up in Anchorage, a homeowner built a three-tiered snowman over 20 feet tall, dubbed Snowzilla.
