An Israeli settler shot and wounded a Palestinian man who threatened him with a rock, police said Saturday, while Palestinian media reported that the man was mentally disabled.

According to police, the Palestinian man arrived at an outpost farm near the northern West Bank village of Duma “already armed with a large stone and began to go wild and behave suspiciously, and, at a certain point, threatened a local resident who approached to inquire about his actions and attempted to attack him with the stone.”

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA quoted Red Crescent medics as saying that the man, 29, was mentally disabled and had been shot in the stomach and leg.

According to the Haaretz news site, the man was taken to Rafidia Hospital in Nablus for treatment.

Speaking to the news outlet, Duma Mayor Suleiman Dawabsheh said the man’s condition was stable.
