Auchincloss doubles down on Platner criticism: ‘I’d vote for someone else’
Massachusetts Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D) on Tuesday doubled down on his opposition to the Democratic front-runner in the Maine Senate race, a day after he said candidate Graham Platner’s tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol was “disqualifying.”
“As I said months ago, I find Platner’s Nazi tattoo and his commentary about it personally disqualifying,” he wrote on social media. “If it were me I’d vote for someone else in the Maine Democratic primary.”
Auchincloss pushed back on the notion that he was supporting incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) by opposing Platner’s campaign in a social media post on Tuesday morning.
“Susan Collins is a rubber stamp for the worst admin in history. Claims that I would endorse her, implicitly or otherwise, ignore my track record supporting Democrats to take back both chambers,” the lawmaker wrote in the Tuesday post.
Saikat Chakrabarti, a Democratic candidate for California’s 11th House District, had criticized Auchincloss’s opposition to Platner’s Senate bid and called for the Massachusetts lawmaker to “be primaried” in a social media post on Monday.
