Noah Wyle tells Congress: Healthcare workers shouldn’t have to ‘beg for basic support’

He typically stars as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on HBO’s medical drama “The Pitt,” but Noah Wyle is now making a different kind of House call, advocating for healthcare worker-focused legislation at the Capitol.

“Every major change in healthcare has started with somebody brave enough to say this is not working, it can be better,” Wyle said Thursday as he joined hundreds of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals outside the Capitol at a rally organized by the healthcare apparel company and advocacy group FIGS.

“I want to be super clear about who is talking to you right now: I am not a doctor. I am not a nurse. I am not a member in any way of the healthcare workforce that I love so dearly,” the 54-year-old performer told the crowd.

“I am an actor. I’m the son of a nurse who spent 50 years caring for other people, and I’ve spent decades trying to do justice to what she and the rest of you actually do. That is the only credential I am claiming today,” the former “ER” star said. Wyle was joined by his mother and registered nurse, Marty Wyle, along with Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), and Reps. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.), Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) and Buddy Carter (R-Ga.).
