Absence of Light: Mental fortitude demands daily effort

Mental health isn’t a trend. It’s not a buzzword. It’s the foundation of how we think, how we move and, ultimately, how we live.
If we’re being honest, what we see in our youth today didn’t just appear out of nowhere. It’s inherited. Not just through DNA, but through environment, habits and unspoken patterns. Previous generations passed down more than traditions — they passed down unresolved trauma, suppressed emotions, survival mindsets — what I call a mental gene.
Now, that mental gene has evolved. It’s louder. It’s more visible. In many cases, it’s more unstable because it was never properly addressed. What used to be hidden is now exposed. What used to be managed is now magnified.
First, we must stay grounded in reality. There are people walking around today lost in illusions — manufactured identities, false narratives and distractions that feel good but lead nowhere. If we’re not careful, we’ll get pulled into that same cycle.
Not every voice deserves your attention. Not every perspective deserves your agreement. Some people are operating from delusion, not truth, and if you entertain that too long, it’ll distort your own thinking.
We can’t afford to imprison our minds.
That’s what illusions do — they build invisible cages. You look free on the outside, but mentally, you’re locked in, controlled by false beliefs, distracted by noise and disconnected from purpose.
If we want a stronger generation coming up behind us, we have to model that now, not ignore it.
Let me break it down simply.
Your mind is no different from your oral health.
If you brush your teeth daily, floss and take care of your hygiene, your teeth stay strong, clean and functional. But if you neglect them, decay sets in. Damage builds quietly. By the time you feel it, it’s already deep.
Your mind works the same way. If you don’t clean it daily — through reflection, learning, truth and intentional thinking — it’ll decay. Negative thoughts build up. Confusion sets in. Bad information hardens like plaque. Before you know it, your decision making is compromised.
Mental health is not just about reacting when things go wrong — it’s about maintenance. Daily discipline. Daily awareness. Daily cleansing of what doesn’t belong in your mind.
That means checking what you consume — what you watch, what you listen to, who you’re around. That means challenging your own thoughts and asking: Is this real, or is this illusion?
Because a healthy mind doesn’t just happen. It’s built. It’s protected. It’s maintained.
If we want a stronger generation coming up behind us, we have to model that now, not ignore it. Not pass it down broken. But fix it, refine it and pass down clarity instead of confusion.
So protect your mind like you protect your body. Clean it daily. Guard it aggressively. Don’t let illusions take ownership of your reality.
Once the mind is right, everything else follows.
Stay sharp. Stay grounded. Stay intentional. Stand firm, think clearly and move with purpose — because a disciplined mind builds a powerful life.
