Inspired by Colts' Rivers, 49ers legend Steve Young says he could play at 64
FILE - Former quarterback Steve Young of the San Francisco 49ers stands on the sidelines prior to an NFL football game against the Chicago Bears, at Levi's Stadium on Dec. 8, 2024 in Santa Clara, Calif.
As San Francisco 49ers legend Steve Young has watched Colts quarterback Philip Rivers come out of retirement at 44, the Pro Football Hall of Famer seems to be pretty clearly imagining what it would be like to return to the field himself.
Young last played in the NFL in 1999, when the then-37-year-old suffered a concussion in the third game of the season. He retired the following summer and has stayed around the sport ever since as a television analyst, frequent guest on KNBR and even a high school flag football coach for his daughters.
