Map shows fast-moving Palisades Fire, forcing celebrity evacuations

A fast-moving wildfire is burning through Topanga Canyon amid “life-threatening and destructive” winds, threatening celebrity homes and forcing residents to flee. The Palisades Fire started at around 11:04 a.m. in the western region of Los Angeles County as offshore winds reached over 60 mph.

“The Palisades fire estimated at 200 acres and is currently bumping the area of Chastain Parkway East and Calle Brittany,” Cal Fire said around noon. “The fire has spotted across Palisades Drive and is currently on both sides of the road.”

The Getty Villa museum is also being “impacted” by the fire on its north side, according to LA County Fire Department scanner traffic. The extent of the impact is unknown.

Evacuation orders surrounding the Palisades Fire as of 12:45 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2025.

At around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, evacuation orders were issued for residents at the southern end of the famed Topanga Canyon Boulevard.

“Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to LEAVE NOW. The area is lawfully closed to public access,” Cal Fire warned. Surrounding neighborhoods were put under evacuation warnings, indicating a potential threat to life.

Actor James Woods shared videos of the fearsome blaze on social media before announcing he was leaving his home at around 11:50 a.m.

On Palisades Drive, actor Steve Guttenberg appeared on the local news, pleading with residents to leave their keys in their cars so they could be moved to allow fire trucks through.

The fire is just a few miles down the shore from the Franklin Fire that blazed through Malibu in early December and forced residents, including Cher and Dick Van Dyke, from their mansions.
