The Federal Reserve voted to hold its benchmark interest rate in a target range of 3.5% to 3.75%, marking the third consecutive meeting without a change and producing the most divided vote the rate-setting committee has seen in more than three decades.
October 1992 was the last time the FOMC recorded four dissenting votes, according to CNBC — a threshold reached again Wednesday when the committee divided 8-4, with dissenters motivated by opposing concerns.
